Contrary to common belief, therapy is not meant to help us feel good, it is meant to help us feel more.
Therapy is an opportunity we give ourselves to promote our own mental and emotional health. When we do that, our existence is much more authentic and consequently we live fuller lives.
The most amazing component to therapy is the therapist’s presence: We get to go through this amazing, often life changing experience, in the presence of a wise, non-judgmental, caring and supportive “other” – the therapist. Without a therapist, going through this significant process is harder and often impossible. As babies, we are born into a profound human connection. Birthing ourselves emotionally, mentally and spiritually, is no different.
We are such complex beings we are only fully alive when we allow ourselves to experience the entire array of human emotions (“good” and “bad” ): anger, content, sadness, excitement, hurt, happiness, bliss, confusion and fear, just to name a few. Experiencing our feelings leads to awareness; awareness helps us become responsible and accountable for our own experience in the world (of ourselves and others) and consequently we feel better about WHO WE ARE, even when we feel those “bad” feelings.
Change and growth is an innate human need, which we often access through suffering.
When we experience suffering we often feel something is wrong with us. This adds more "weight" to the issue we are dealing with to begin with, and we find ourselves caught in a vicious cycle that is pulling us down, and feel very helpless in moving through it, or negating it.
My working model begins with the understanding that suffering helps us break through old and unnecessary patterns of behavior and dynamics. Through it we get to shed those pattern and dynamics and replace them with what is more authentic to us.
I have the capacity, interest and skills to support the following growth opportunities:
It is a privilege and an honor to be a companion in such journeys, in which people deal with their suffering and come out with a better sense of who they are, and a strength they did not know they have.
