I’m passionate, dedicated, funny, loving, colorful and curious. People that know me well say I have a huge, caring heart that is accompanied by a sharp and innovative mind.
You will feel listened to and understood in ways that will surprise you, as I pick up on the gist of things, and then, with curiosity, add thoughts, questions and layers.
I see people’s essence, beyond all the armors they put on to protect themselves. I will marvel at your uniqueness as I witness your beauty and despair. That will allow you to be the best version of yourself at any time, and will give you new breath so that you may deal with your life better.
You can expect to feel deeply cared for. You will always make sense to me, even when you don’t make sense to yourself. I will never criticize you, yet I will challenge you to think and see things differently, pushing you gently out of your comfort zone. You can expect the way you see things to change completely and a new curiosity to replace rigid stories and perceptions.
You are not self-destructive. You do not need to be disciplined, for fear you will end up hurting yourself. When you are behaving self-destructively you do so because something within you, that you still don’t have words for, is stronger than your need to be safe and stay out of trouble. Rather than fearing and condemning it, it needs to be respected, approached with curiosity and care. When you stop fearing yourself, you will feel complete. When you feel complete, you will stop hurting yourself.
Originally a special education teacher, I have worked with children on the autistic spectrum and supported their families. I ran an after school program for young teens with autism and other social challenges, and supervised the program’s amazing team.
Later, I’ve earned my masters degree in counseling psychology from the California Institute for Integral Studies in San Francisco, and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. As part of the training to be a licensed MFT, I completed over 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience, passed two licensing exams and engage in ongoing continuing education trainings.
While our minds can play all kids of tricks on us, our body doesn't lie. For healing to occur body, mind heart and soul need to be witnessed and listened to. I use various practices [Relational Somatic Healing (RSH), Gestalt and mindfulness] to approach these domains, and create integration and healing.
Throughout the years, I have worked with adults, adolescents, children, and families in various settings: schools, family care centers, community mental health clinics, addiction and recovery centers, just to name a few.
I’m particularly proud of the years I have been working with at-risk youth and their families, as that is where I found my passion and calling. I was humbled by the specific challenges they face, as well as the common hurdles shared by adolescents and their families everywhere.
Working with individual adults who are experiencing distress and seeking deeper meaning to their lives is another great passion of mine, and I have had the pleasure and privilege of accompanying deep journeys of self revelation with some brave, amazing people.
